    Why would you want to do that?

    If you need compatibility with PC’s, put MacDrive on one of your PC’s.

    “Someone” gave you bad advice. OS X 10.3.x can read but not write to NTFS-formatted volumes.
    If you’re using the drive with a Mac and Mac apps, format HFS+ journaled, as with any Mac drive.
    If you have a Windows box you have to share the drive with, use MacDrive on it, as suggested earlier.

    Journalling is only recommended for system (OS boot drive) drives. Media drives for FCP SHOULD NOT be journaled.
