Hey all, after having found my way around premiere pro on my own i am now starting w/ After Effects. And that’s a tougher nut to crack.

So what i’m trying to do i’m sure is really simple, but i can’t figure it out.

I have a text caption over a video stating somebody’s name & function. Underneath this text i would like a semi-transparent rectangular shape. Just for aesthetic’s sake.

I’ve tried some stuff with the mask tool but that’s not it and i can’t find a simple “draw shapes” button, you know?

Hope you can get me started :). Thanks in advance!

    Screw it, let’s do it!

Well AE does have a rectangular mask tool you could try for this. Or you could create a small solid (Ctrl + y), lower the opacity, and change its position / scale until it is where you want it. If you know illustrator it is easier to draw complex shapes in there and import them directly into AE or paste in the Illustrator path as an AE mask.
