Not sure where this goes – Adobe Soundbooth – beta
Posted by Kevin Dearing on July 14, 2008 at 2:42 pmHi all,
I apologize if this is not the correct place to post – I didn’t see anything else except the Audition forum and, well, that’s not Soundbooth and I know that SB comes with the creative suite so…Anyway, I’m just wondering if anyone is using the beta version, and if you would reccomend it or not.. (I’d rather not install it, then have to go back to my CS3 version if you know what I mean…)
Thanks

July 14, 2008 at 8:30 pmBeta users are typically working under confidentiality.
Also, beta software usually has some issues…that why it’s beta. It’s being troubleshot by users who then give feedback to engineers…
When you have the chance to buy released CS4 software, you will most likely find demos out there that will show you what the new version does…

July 15, 2008 at 1:11 amThanks Tim,
As a software engineer myself (I changed careers about 12 years ago but still love to play with video) I understand what you mean. Admitedly I haven’t read Adobe’s license for the beta version of SB, so after your post I decided to take a read through it because Adobe’s SB beta download is so out there and available I figured it was more of a ‘shareware’ community feel (not that it’s free – just that Adobe understands that the more systems that the beta is tested on the better, and, the Adobe user community seems to be fairly open and I believe they would report any bugs, etc. that they may find..)I was just wondering if anyone has been using it and had good results with some of the new features, namely the multiple tracks… I am a fairly light user of SB but the one thing that I would like is the ability to have separate tracks.. I kinda figured that I might use beta CS4 until CS 4 was out then upgrade as opposed to purchasing Audition. Actually, I’d probably just wait anyway – I mean, it’s not like this is a business for me or anything – if it were, I’d have gotten Audition long ago..
So, when I went back there to take another look at the download page and read the beta license I saw the link to Adobe’s open Soundbooth Beta discussion forum. I’m sure I’ll find my answer there..
Fortunately, Adobe isn’t as closed as Micro$oft seems to be in terms of beta testing…

July 15, 2008 at 3:19 amAh…yes. The public betas are something I’m still not used to…
They’re relatively new.
I’m relatively old.
I’d try the Audition forum…there might be some who are trying Soundbooth out over there. I still run Audition CS2 for exactly the reasons you describe…

July 15, 2008 at 4:34 pmI have SB1 and I’m test SB2 beta and I have to admit it’s not bad either one. But, that being said, by far audition is so,so,so,so-much better, did I say so?(smile) I learned audition first and did the basic recording cleaning mixing audio. When I got CS3 it came with SB and I could no longer do the some of the basics. It made me realize I was really proficient in Audition and needed it to keep doing what I needed. If I had to make a decision on getting SB or AD I would spend the extra $150 for greater control/ability and get Audition. I use a mac now and put my audition on the bootcamp side.
Hope this helps

July 15, 2008 at 6:38 pmHi Twann,
Thanks for your input. If I find a $150 lying in the sstreet one day I’ll certainly buy Audition – but I think I’ll see if I can load SB CS4 beta alongside my CS3 load that came with Creative Suite. If so, I’ll just do that until Creative Suite CS4 comes out which will presumably include SB CS4..BTW, do you have both loaded on the same machine? (windows? I don’t recall if SB is available on Mac’s..)
Thanks again!
