Is there any way, when saving a project, not to save unused material from the project media?.

Use Save as then tick the box “Copy and Trim Media with Project.

Specify a new folder for this – you can also specify “handles” to allow you still to make minor adjuctments.

Once the copied version is finished, you can save space by deleting the original media files.

The *bad* news to this approach: DV-AVI files will be split into TWO files: DV-AVI for the video and W64 for the audio.

If you are asking how to clear unused media from your project, then hit the little lightning bolt icon in the upper left of the Project Media tab. That way, Vegas won’t ask you where that media is if it has been moved or deleted. If you meant otherwise Edward and Peter have you covered.

A problem with this seems to be that if you used nested veg files on the timeline that the media included in those nested veggies does not get copied. If you the remove the original material you are SOL.
