I’ve looked over several forums regarding this issue and have not found an answer that has worked on my machine.

When I RAM preview my project (29.97fps), it plays back at 11.9fps. It takes essentially twice as long to play the video, however the audio track plays back at normal speed.

I’ve read things about trying lower resolutions, disabling audio layers, etc., none of which has worked. I’ve gone through and disabled every layer in the comp and previewed…still does it.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks so much in advance.

    Thanks for the reply Dave.

I tried the first 3 before but to no avail. I went ahead and tried them again for giggles, and……still no dice.

The last 2 were new suggestions. I’d already had Open GL disabled, but not the multiprocessing. I tried enabling that, but it still doesn’t seem to work.

I’ve done plenty of promos and things in HD and not had a problem, but for some reason, this project is giving me fits.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Let me know if you have any others.

Remember, there is a ‘Composition Viewer Resolution’ and a ‘RAM Preview Resolution’ and they are independent of each other. Remember the resolution at which the ram preview is generated is changed under the ‘Time Controls’ Panel.

In the likely event that you were already aware of this, its also possible a third party driver/hardware is causing the problem. For instance, the Matrox RTX2 Editing card has WYSIWYG drivers for after affects so that your comp is output to a preview monitor, however when this function is enabled, your comp will never play in realtime, it will play at half speed at best, regardless of how fast your computer is.

THAT WAS IT! It was the Matrox. I’ve had it for quite sometime, but apparently haven’t done an HD project with it since. If the project is SD, it will work ok, but with HD it’s too much.

    Thanks so much!

    Long live the cow!
