NOT Re-encding Audio When Rendering

If you don’t do anything to the audio you add to a project, rendering to the project format won’t have any effect on it.
Rendering to a different format can potentially change it but that’s a codec issue, not a Vegas issue.

If you’re talking about the way it sounds on a DVD after encoding, that’s a Dolby encoding issue.
Assuming it’s an AC-3 render, you can now choose Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio (*.ac3) as the “Save as type” and Stereo DVD, AGC on as the “Template”.

In the days before Pro 8 and this option, the solution was to modify the standard AC-3 template as follows:
Encode set to AC3;
Click on Custom tab;
On the first tab, set diag. norm to “-31”;
On the last tab marked Preprocessing, set the Line Mode Profile and RF Mode Profile mode to “none”;
Save this as a preset.

I have Vegas Pro 8.

If I render using default settings (MPEG1 with basic audio & video) the video comes out poor and the sound is there.

If I do any changes to the quality of the video (MPEG2 with “best” video) even if the “include audio track” is checked, after rendering there is no audio.

How do I get render with “best” video and still have audio?

The “DVD Architect” presets do NOT include audio. If you want audio included in the file, you have to go into “custom” to the AUDIO tab and then turn it back on.

However, you should be rendering the audio separately if you’re going to create a DVD. Check out Vol 1 #7 and Vol 4 #1 of my newsletters for more details.

Thank you so much for your help and definitely your newsletters. I printed the 2 out, followed them step by step and produced a perfectly rendered DVD.

Now…
I have to clean up the DVD in a few ways.
1. I need to freeze a frame and have it stretch for a period of time at the beginning and another at the end of the movie. (cant find it in the software, in an obvious place)
2. I also need to slow motion a portion of the movie. (cant find it in the software, in an obvious place)
3. Lastly, I need to do some color correction. (I’ve played with this but it only seems to do a portion of the frame and I need it to last from the beginning of the cut to the end)

Please help again. Hopefully you have another section of your newsletter that has all of this info.

For 1 and 2, use a Velocity Envelope

For 3, turn OFF the “split screen” button (it’s just above the preview screen)
