Not playing 1080 on my external monitor
Posted by Jack Sewell on January 4, 2009 at 9:39 amHi guys,
I have a 1080i sequence that I’ve just rendered out, however it won’t play on my external monitor. I have a Geforce 6600LE in my G5. I’m assuming this is the problem.
Can anyone suggest the most affordable upgrade to HD?
many thanks

January 4, 2009 at 3:24 pmYou need hardware to do this with… no graphics card does it, but if you post the exact specs of your G5, there are solutions… has to have a PCIe bus for some of them for example. But you need to spend some bucks to get there.

I’ve got a Dual 2GHz G5 Power PC, 5.5Gb RAM, I think the machine has PCI slots as opposed to PCIe.
What would be a cheap and effective method to go HD?
thanks for your help.

January 4, 2009 at 8:37 pmMXO’s won’t work, nor will the Intensity card… it’s PCIe only.
Might find a used Kona 2 card, or you could use a Kona LH card… (AJA makes it) none of the newer stuff works with that flavor of G5… But the only way to view externally is with one of these cards or some older Decklink card. I know little about them.
Also none of these cards will supply HDMI, you’ll need to use Component analog outs from them to a monitor. Not the worst thing, but you’ll have to have these inputs on your monitor or TV…
