Why do you want one? From what I can tell they don’t really do anything useful.

Also, FYI, you can export to .obj and re-import and you will get a normals tag.

I was going from the Rob Redman tutorial on using normals maps to create better textures.

Every time I use Cinema to export to a a normals map in the multipass section, I get a black document instead of the usual wacky coloured / pinkish normals map…..

Do I not need to produce these normals maps to improve my texturing?

Are they very different from bump maps?

    Cheers….

Ah, I was thinking you were talking about a plugin to generate a normal *tag*. You can create normal maps using the bake object or bake texture function, but all it will do is bake a bump to a normal map which won’t look any better than the bump map.

There are some applications, and maybe plugins, that will generate a normal map based on the difference between a high-poly and low-poly object, and that can be quite useful. Unfortunately I can’t point you to a plugin.
