NOOB QUESTION: How do I increase the quality of my video’s?
I am a complete amateur when it comes to photography, but I’m slowly improving thanks to the sources and beginner threads on this sub-reddit. Recently I’ve been trying to shoot some video. I know a camera such as this (Nikon D3100) wont be able to shoot AMAZING video, but the results that I am getting are far under par than what I expected.
In a low light situation, I am unable to adjust any settings that seem to improve my video quality at all. When using an ISO 100, and an ISO “hi2”, the actual brightness and quality of the video is exactly the same in both situations…
Are there any manual controls that I am missing that directly affect video quality? From what I have experienced, changing the ISO/shutter speed/aperature does not affect the brightness/quality of my video at all. I know this sub-reddit isn’t directly associated with shooting video, but I feel as if someone on here maybe able to help me.

This is a still from a video taken at ISO “Hi2”, with 1/60 shutter speed and around 4.2 aperature. On the liveview, the video looked much brighter and more vibrant, but when I actually begin to record the video, it appears much darker and “crushed”.
I would appreciate any help 🙂 -

ISO is the correct control to increase brightness but 100 is far too low for the lighting situation with the dog, try something like 200, 300 or 400 and adjust up and down from there.
If you really want to learn how to adjust your camera to get great shots then you must shoot in manual mode – later when you understand how the camera works THEN it makes more sense to film in the other “easier” modes

Also it sounds like you turned up the screen brightness so that it is now showing you a brighter picture than you are actually filming, turn it back down to the middle setting so it more accurately reflects what you are actually filming
