Non Standard Resolution MPEG2
Does anybody have any idea how to export an Mpeg2 that is NOT NTSC, PAL, or SECAM?
I need to export an Mpeg2 at 1600 by 1200 resolution. I have tried Premier pro (cs2) (using it’s own codec, Main Concept, and procoder 3), After Effects, and FCP/Compressor. All of them scream bloody murder at the idea of using anything but NTSC/PAL SD or HD formats.
It was my understanding that the MPEG2 standard did not imply a particular set of resolutions.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

It restricted when its set to MPEG-2 DVD. Make sure any reference in the export settings is far from it actually being used for DVD and it should do it.
AME> Format MPEG-2 Set Profile to HIGH, and LEVEL to HIGH. You can set your own Height and Width. Your are restricted to then 1920×1088. Can’t get the 1200. Sorry dude. That’s a crazy resolution (1600×1200) Why do you need that high?

PS: Using CS3 I managed to get a H.264 file out at that resolution.How many editors does it take to change a light bulb?

If you really need that resolution in Mpeg2, you’ll have to use After Effects.

I can’t get AE to use any codes but Main Concept, so it won’t do anything bigger than 1920×1088. I know Pixel Tools will do it, but that is a $1500 program! It’s a little disturbing that the “world standard” video programs (premier, after effects, final cut) are so stuck in the present video standards that they have no built in “headroom” to accommodate the native resolution of most of the ‘world standard” projectors (1400×1050, 1600×1200, etc).
A little frustrating, but thanks for the advice guys!

hmm, I could have sworn I exported that resolution in the past. Maybe a previous version. But does it really have to be Mpeg2 ?

Unfortunately it does have to be MPEG2. The playback unit is a MEDIASONIC 9500 (only reads MPEG2s), and then spits out of a BARCO R6+ Projector.

Got it. Believe me you’d be pulling your hair even more if you had to work with the GrasS Valley Turbo-R in HDV (???).
Well, a good scaler like an Image Pro should upconvert very nicely (which I’m sure you already know), certainely much better than the projector, that’s what I usually end up doing with the Panasonic 7700.
I looked at Procoder and TmpgEnc, and neither go much higher either (1600×1152)
