maybe you can help me out.

i am fighting against the high noise level of my new hvx 200.
no sucess so far, i tried different scene files, detail and coring
and used always gain at 0db.

could it be my cam is broken?
    what can i do?

    regards

Can you post a still? Noise is a pretty subjective term.

    here i posted the picture.
    https://lime.quickshareit.com/share/00014hbfeb2.zip

its from a clip, i ve shot in 720p50 (pal).

in comparison with the sony z1 its very noisy.
also, what i do not understand, why is the noise
    more roughly compared to 1080p25?

i would be very happy, when i could solve the problem.

    regards

    Hey Thomas,

I’ve looked at your picture and, I’m sorry, but I don’t see what you’re talking about. Your still doesn’t look very “noisy” at all. A little pixelated maybe, but don’t see any “real” noise. I’ve used the HVX200 for several months now and as long as I’ve had sufficient lighting, I’ve never had a problem with noise. My suggestion would be to check your gain settings first. Make sure you’re gain toggle switch hasn’t been toggled down accidently or something. Also, check your gain settings in your menu. Are you working with any unusual scene files or user files? Make sure your gain isn’t set to like -12 db by default or something like that. But again, I really can’t see anything that you’re talking about from the still.

Sometimes the obvious is hidden in plain view.

I don’t see anything that I would call “noise” either. I am curious as to why there are jagged edges that look like interlacing artifacts if this was shot in a progressive mode. Can someone explain that?

    thank you.

maybe its better to look at material in motion.

this one is 720p25 and 1.9mb:

its very short, so maybe you look at it in loop?

Been shooting with the HVX for about a year. I light interview with lots of contrast. Definite noise problems in the shadows, don’t think it is a matter of proper lighting unless you consider flat lighting wonderful. Also prefer using Cine V, which is noisier, love all the colors, love close ups, wide shots suffer. Comes with the 1/3″ chip territory. You can crush the blacks, but shadow gradation suffers. Black press might help.

That shot looks about 1 to 2 stops underexposed and so I see a bit of grain but nothing unusual for the camera.
