I plugged into a DJ’s sound board this weekend for my buddy’s toast. While he was speaking, there was this terrible hum coming thru the speakers and by the time I got my headphones on to see if it was being recorded, the toast was done and the music coming thru sounded fine. The DJ said he had NO idea why it was doing that. It was more of a buzz than a hum.
I’m wondering what can be done to quell this God awful sound.
    Thank you!

Soundtrack Pro (bundled with the new Final Cut Studio) has a pretty decent noise removal filter.

Got Soundtrack Pro? (Part of new Studio)… it has a feature that will work really well for this… the buzz isn’t going to be easy to delete with FCP I’m afraid.

It’s a great primer for noise reduction and will tell you a lot of what you need to try to deal with your problem:

No I do not own the new Soundtrack , just the one that came with FCP HD . I dont have any other software either. I was just hoping that something on FCP would at least reduce the buzzing….

About the only thing to do then is play around with different notch filter audio filters. Might be able to notch out some of the noise that way, but if the frequency of the noise is the same as the audio you want to preserve, its really not gonna work very well because you’ll notch out that too. I’d suggest if you have the bugdet to go to an audio studio with pro tools and have them work on it… or someone with Soundtrack Pro maybe could come to the rescue.
