    Good afternoon all,

I have been using Adobe Audition for awhile now and I am having a persistent problem with noise reduction and I can’t quite figure out what I am doing wrong. No matter how I add noise reduction (adaptive or noise reduction process), the noise in the file usually goes away but instead there is this added humming/high ringing.

Again, can’t quite figure out what I am messing up here. I record in a studio that has a lot of white noise so I might just have to live with it but I’d like to get your perspective before I give up hope.

Noise reduction is a balancing act. A metallic or robotic ring is a side effect of too much noise reduction. The algorithms are not perfect, so trying to get rid of all the noise is not really the objective, the objective is to reduce noise without introducing perceivable artifacts. Try dialing down all the settings to half from the point where you start noticing the ring. That’s closer to where you want to be.
