  • noise in matte – big problems

Hi, having problems with keylight. There’s a lot of noise in my matte. In keylight’s effects controls, when I look at my matte in the “screen matte” view, I have a beautiful solid white matte with nice edges. Scrubbing on this white gives me values of 255 for all my channels so it should be all good. But when I flip back to the “final result” view and do a ram preview, I see all this noise in the subject. argghh!!!

Does anyone have any tips to take the noise out?

Source footage is DVCPro-HD 720p 30 shot on an HVX-200.

I’m even doing a core matte layer underneath by doing a quick key on a dup of the layer, running an auto trace, choking the auto trace layer by 20 pixels, and then applying an alpha track matte to the dup layer. I hope I said that correctly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did read that the HVX can be kinda noisy but when I preview the raw source footage, there isn’t any noise, or at least not like the noise you see after the footage has been keyed.

Hmmm…might want to play with the Alpha Bias there.

Or simply send me your original footage at my adress, I’ll have some spare time tomorrow.

    Hope that helped.
