Hello I am a student working on a project with very short notice; I have access to this P2 camera for a few days and have begun reading online for some quick training but time is a wasting and I am hoping that you or someone reading this post can give me a quick call or vice versa to ask some basic settings and work flow questions. We were lucky enough to get access to this camera for a few days but we have no idea what we are doing.

Here is what I DO know:
    1)we are shooting at 720p 60fps
    2)Have access to the AJ-PCS060G (P2 Store)
3)Apple Macbook and a powerbook with slot but no power supply can be found unfortunately.
    4)x2 8GB P2 cards
    5) 2 battery packs

We want to shoot using outdoor natural light here in NYC in the next day or so – possibly over the weekend if we can borrow it for that long) and we are hoping to shoot at 60 frames because we want to do a bunch of time remapping in after effects – my partner says the more frames we have the better.

This is crazy i know but i dont have time – I need a crash course in P2 for a shoot this afternoon! I saw that you have a DVD coming out from the link on your article but I need to understand work flow for some field shoots here in NYC for a student project. I will be using FCP 6 and after effects and am thinking to shoot a bunch of footage at 60 fps for slomo and time remapping in AE.

Noah if you get this and feel my desperate vibe and want to help out a young student give a call – i promise it will be a quick and painless convo and good karma – plus i will buy that dvd when it comes out : )

First I would get over to the Apple Store and buy a power supply for that Powerbook. Having that on set would be ideal. (Preferably the one on 5th Avenue because there’s a Sabrett’s stand right out front.)

Next download and print this PDF out. It has stuff you need to know:

There’s also a free online seminar from Apple. I haven’t had a chance to watch this yet but it’s from Steve Bayes- good Apple guy and only 12 minutes. Between these two things you should get what you need until we publish our DVD.

Update: I Found the Power cord for this powerbook!!

Thanks for replying so fast Noah – that alone is pretty cool of you sir – i really appreciate that, sorry to be so crazy. I have very little experience shooting and only intermediate experience using Final cut (mostly DV). So for questions about white balance and any other field settings you recommend going to those resources you mention?

For questions about editing in these different formats within final cut and time remapping would you suggest posting in that user forum? In that I will be handling the editing and my friend the After effects stuff – i guess my main questions would be about when to shoot the 60fps stuff and what/when to switch to something slower for shots which do not have motion involved.

Again thanks for getting back to us and I look forward to that DVD
    all the best
