Ahhh… so the questions is, “What was on your desktop that is not on your laptop?” I would start by comparing installed programs and drivers between the two.

May 22, 2012 at 2:50 pmI am back from my event.
Here is more information about this unusual challenge.
I loaded a trail version of Sony Vegas 11 64 bit on a friend’s i7 64 bit computer. All the files played.
I then uninstalled the 32 bit Song Vegas as Mike had recommended installing. and uninstalled the 64 bit Vegas. After reinstalling the 64 bit program, Vegas played and showed the files correct – both video and audio. I thought the problem was solved.
I closed the program, took the laptop to my hotel room, reopened Vegas a short time later and got error messages – at that point it said for the video “media offline” but was showing the audio waveform. It was the same MXF file that had both video and audio!!!
Then the program would no longer show any of the video – just the waveform of the audio of MXF files I dropped on the timeline.
Very strange. I am in contact with Sony support services. I was driving yesterday and not in front of the laptop so will call them today.
I will report back, especially if we figure it out. I will be leaving in a few days for another video shoot and might end up getting a different laptop… I just need something that works and I don’t have to spend a lot of time getting it to work…
Thanks, James
