    Just upgraded to version 8.0c and lo and behold I’ve lost my automatic video preview. Yes, the arrow is checked and I do get audio preview, but no video. Ideas?

    Hey Jim,
    I think you just have to go in preferences and select your external
    preview device.

    Jim, it’s a “feature”

    * Enhanced Trimmer window with integral video monitor, separate external monitor, Enable Timeline Overwrite, and Fit to Fill modes.

    When the Show Video Monitor button in the Trimmer window is selected, video that you preview from the Vegas Explorer and Media Manager windows is played back in the Trimmer. Because the Trimmer is placed in the same window dock as the Explorer and Media Manager, you will not see your video preview. To preview Explorer and Media Manager video, you can drag the Trimmer to a new dock group, or you can turn off the Show Video Monitor button to preview in the Video Preview window.

    Thank you guys for the quick response. I’m not sure that I was very clear on my first post. (or I’m going to that “place” again).

    I ordinarily don’t use the trimmer when I’m assembling a project on the timeline. Instead, I just will preview my clips in the regular preview window (keeping “Auto Preview” checked) so that I can quickly determine what scene I want to add to the timeline. As I said, I hear the audio with 8.0c but do not see the video. (My preview device has not changed from 8.0b).

    So if I am understanding correctly, I would have to now use the Trimmer in order to see a preview of a clip? That seems like a big step backwards.

    So did I get that right or do I need to up my vitamin intake?

    Thanks for the time. It’ s nice when I have someone that I can go to for answers!

    Ok, I know that I should know better than to double post, but hey, I’m overworked (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)

    The greatest thing about CreativeCow is the speed in which you can get an answer to a thorny problem. Thank you to Edward Troxel who grasped my problem and gave me the 3 second fix that would have taken me several hours to discover if left to my own devices (I’m being generous here, possibly would have been lost in Vegas Documentation for eternity).

    Here is a screenshot that explains what I was looking for;

    Vegas Screenshot

    Button 1 in the Trimmer window is the one that you need to turn OFF if you want the preview to appear in the original preview window.

    Button 2 will put your preview on an external monitor.

    Button 3 shows frames.

    Thanks Edward for the fix
