no video playback
Hi all, I’m desparately hoping someone can help me figure out what’s wrong here. I just got Production Premium CS4 for Premiere. I can import videos into the workspace, and I can hear streaming audio when I try to playback, but I get no video, which makes it a little difficult to edit. I’m running an HP computer with Intel Core 2 quad processor and 8 gigs of RAM. I have Windows 7 64bit, which I heard had no known problems running Adobe stuff. I run Flash, Illustrator, and Photoshop with no problems. There are no games on this computer. When I run Sherlock, it tells me that both the H.264 encoder and decoder are broken, as well as the MPEG video encoder. It also says that the AAC decoder and MPEG audio encoder are broken, but I’m not actually experiencing any audio problems. I’ve tried unistalling and reinstalling already. I also downloaded and installed the Premiere 4.2.1 update, which didn’t help me. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

What type of footage are you trying to playback?
If you installed any third party codecs other than the Adobe suite, I would wipe the drive and install Windows 7 as a clean install.

Hi, trying to build an edit from AVI clips. I haven’t knowingly installed any other third party codecs. I normally do high end audio editing, so this machine has Pro Tools on it. Is there a known problem between Pro Tools and Adobe stuff? Thanks!

I don’t use ProTools anymore but I did have it with some M-audio devices and never had any problems, I use Audition now, along with Cubase.

What kind of AVI clips, Ppro is not friendly with sometypes of AVI, AVI is only a generic term, if you are trying to run highly compressed formats there could be a problem even with a quad core processor. -
okay, so Pro Tools must not be the problem. The clips I have are uncompressed. I think one of them is compressed about 2%. I have some .avi some .mov, and some .mpg clips and none of them work. The problem is with the codecs. I’ve unistalled and reinstalled Production Premium CS4 twice now, and the Adobe codecs still show up as broken on Sherlock. Is there another place to find and download the h.264 and MPEG codecs?

Probably because sherlock is old software made for win xp. -
I have spend the better part of a day working on this issue. I am configured as a HP DV9000 laptop with Win 7 and this video driver solved the problem.

I don’t think the issue is codecs or the input file type or any software including games that are installed on your system. No imported files would display in the monitor, not mpeg, avi, flv, or even anything downloaded from youtube. It would not display DV camera footage I imported using the capture function within PPro fergawdsakes (which btw worked perfectly).
This is an issue with display drivers.
