  • No Video Output/ Blackmagic not switching on output

    Hey,

For some reason my Blackmagic Decklink HD is not pushing the signal out into my external monitor. It was working just a couple of days ago but now I have no idea whats going on.

The external monitor as of right now is displaying the Mac OSX desktop. Usually when I enter into Final Cut, blackmagic turns on and the monitor goes black as if its getting ready to output the video signal onto the monitor. Now this no longer happens and the deskop wallpaper is still on my monitor. I restarted everthing still had the same problem. Check all my settings and everything is set to output onto blackmagic.

What else could be going on?! I’m using a Final Cut 6 with Blackmagic Decklink HD with newest drivers. I do not have or did not switch on color.

    Please help with any advice…

    Hi Shirlyn

The fact that you can see the video desktop is a very good thing, as it means your decklink card is working, and its probably just an odd setting somewhere. What res footage are you working with? IS it part of an existing project, or is it something new you are starting on?

A nice simple test would be to drop a clip into the Blackmagic Deck Control program (make sure the clip is a standard television resolution) If this play out fine, then we know your card is outputting correctly.

In final cut, we can use this same clip to test your output as we know it plays out. You can start a new easy setup, with the same settings for resolution and compression as your test footage you just played. Create a new sequence and import the clip. Drop it on the timeline and see if its playing out.

If it doesnt play in FCP, but it does in Deck Control, we need to look at your settings to see what is wrong. What monitor are you using, and how is it connected?

    Hi Shirlyn,

sounds most like you’ve inadvertently turned off your video output from final cut. Check that view>external video>all frames is ticked (cmd-F12), and that view>video playback is set to the blackmagic output which matches your media.

    Hope this helps,
    Rob
