I can’t see any video when using my camera’s beta deck as my player/recorder. It’s a BVV-5 beta sp deck. I’m coming out of my deck via the playback adaptor and going into a VTR playback adaptor(VA-500), then going into the IO LA box, composite. Then going into the computer, firewire. I’m getting audio but no video. I’m not sure what the settings need to be in the Audio/Video Settings. Right now they are set at uncompressed 10-bit NTSC 48kHz and the Capture Preset is at AJA IO LA composite 10-bit-NTSC US 48 kHz. This is all on Final Cut Pro. I know it’s just got to be the right combination of settings but i’m at a loss for what they are.

    1. Connect the VA-550’s output to an NTSC monitor (using the same cable) to make sure its OK.
    2. Make sure the AJA io is set to the “Composite” video input.
    3. Make sure your Log and Capture settings are: Clips Settings > Capture: > “Aud + Vid”.

I’m not sure that I would even try to do what you propose.
The BVV5 isn’t designed for playback into a production system. Very unstable video. Even with the adapter attached, the composite output is really just for monitoring purposes. I’d be surprised if it’s stable enough for the Io to accept without major problems. Logs of timebase error in the composite video on this unit.
I’d try like heck to find an actual studio playback deck for a while, just to load your footage.

I agree with Tom. I have owned Betacam camera for 10 years. The playback heads on those decks are terrible. Drop outs, etc. If you have a hundred bucks or so, rent a UVW 1600 or 1800 and save a lot of grief.
