  • no sound when importing avi file to adobe premiere pro?

    hello everybody!

i’m from austria and new to this forum… i have a problem (which is probably just a setting problem) with importing an avi file into adobe premiere pro 2.0.

    here are the details:
i have a dvd with my own tv show on it which i want to cut into a short demo video with adobe premiere pro 2.0.

I use “A1 DVD Ripper Professional” to rip it to an AVI File using the following settings: DivX 5.1.1. Codec (I can choose different codecs there ) Audio Bitrate 128 KBits, At “AC3 File” it says “none.ac3”. The resolution is set to 768×576.

It rips everything fine… I can open the file in very good quality and view it with the win media player for example.

And here’s the problem: I want to import it to Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 – that works fine BUT it doesn’t import any audio… the icon at the imported files section only shows video as if it was a video file with no sound.

What happened to the audio?? Do I have to set the ripping settings differently… is there something like a “avi standard” demanded by adobe when importing avis?

THE FUNNY THING IS… I used Adobe Premiere 6.0 before and the same AVI file was imported there but WITH audio… and editing worked perfectly fine…

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong??

Thanks very much in advance and excuse me if the question might sound “stupid” to you…

    Hi Stefan,
Did you find out hw to get the sound in adobe premiere when importing from an avi or mpg file? I am having the same problem. Thanks if you could tell me what has to be done.
    Thanks,
    Edmund

    Hi Edmund!

I didn’t actually solve the problem itself… avi especially if you don’t know what it has been converted with (divx/xvid) is something adobe premiere “doesn’t like”.

What I am doing now ist converting the DVD or whatever other videofile to a “clean” video file with no compression.

I use a converter to output it to a clean fullsize mpeg file… works perfectly! What happens though is that you have pretty large file on your system… I don’t care because I have a lot of space…

    Cheers,
    Stefan

I had problems with sound import from my Sony Camera – if you have access to it get ad2ac3dec.dll from the Encore CS3 directory and copy it to Premier Pro main directory. At least with CS3 this worked and fixed the problem immediately.
