    Hi all
    Editing fine yesterday, no sound output now. Had sound at the beginning of the day then wrestled trying to convert a .mov and then, mysteriously, no sound.

    PC, focusrite usb, meters move, tried numerous projects, new project, updated premiere, tried internal sound card too.

    MME for focusrite – Premiere shows in volume mixer and is up.
    No luck with USB iMic unit either. Sound from all apps but not Premiere.
    Uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere.

    All drivers are fine. Exports are fine. Sound from all other apps is fine. Totally lost on this one.

    TIA for any suggestions.

    I assume you checked the Preferences>Audio Hardware to make sure the default output didn’t get changed to another setting?

    Otherwise, always worth trying this trick that works for older versions of Premiere:
    Click on the hamburger icon by the sequence name in your timeline and choose Reveal Sequence in Project. Copy the sequence. Then paste it back in the project panel and rename it so you can tell the difference. Open it up and you should be able to hear audio when playing this new sequence.

    Thanks, Andy.
    Tried your sequence trick. Tried copying contents into new sequence. Completely new projects with a tone clip. Any existing project – No sound.
    Premiere itself no longer outputs sound.
    Tried 3 output devices. Nothing.
    I’m up to 6 hours of my day lost. Grrr.

    I frequently have times when I suddenly lose sound when I am editing. Oddly I find that if I close another program that I have open e.g. Safari and then return to Premiere, the sound starts playing again. I hope it is as easy a fix as that for you.

    The only other suggestion I have is to reset the preferences and plugin cache. To do this simultaneously, hold down Shift-Alt (Win) or Shift-Opt (Mac) while the application starts. Then release the keys when the splashscreen is up.

    SUCCESS!!!!!

    Documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro>14.0>{username}
    Delete this folder and 3 other files. Voila! Everything working again.
    Now, it may be that it was only 1 of the files or folders within the {username} folder, but I had no custom layouts and such so I didn’t care about losing any customization.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

    Also noting- before this, tried Reset preferences, and no other apps running did not help.

    Hey Steve,
    An interesting experience. Do you not keep your pr projects in that folder you mentioned?
    Documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro>14.0>{username}

    If not where do you keep them? I keep mine in
    {username}>Documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro>14.0
    or someplace like that.

    Thanks,
    Robert

    I keep all of my projects and media on a dedicated drive with a synced Dropbox that I share with other external editors. Nothing is only stored locally. If a drive fails, it’s quick to replace a drive an re-sync a project. I also have 2 editing machines here so the media lan-syncs to a 2nd in-house computer.
