  • No Sequence Codec problem in CS6

Posted by Alex Hawkins on June 12, 2012 at 11:25 pm

    Hi all,

I am running CS6. I am happily editing away, close down for the night. Leave my computer on. Come back in the morning. Start up PPro again and go to open last night’s project and I get this error:

“This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type”

I cannot open the project. In fact I cannot now open any of my CS6 projects. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my AJA Adobe Utilities and AJA Kona LHi drivers (10.3.1) to no avail.

I know someone’s had this problem before with proxy files and switching computers but all I have done is close the project one night and tried to reopen it the next morning.

Anybody seen this before or know of a solution? I’m on a MacPro 4,1 running Lion 10.7.4. I am subscribed to the Adobe Creative Cloud. Could that be a factor?

    Thanks.

Well having done a bit of investigating for some reason most of my sequence presets say that I need a required plug in that is not currently installed. Please re-install missing plug-in(s) and try again or choose another preset.

What is(are) the missing plug-in(s)?? Does anyone know?? Is this some sort of bug??

The only sequence presets where this message does not show up is all the DV presets, the DVCPRO presets and the Mobile & Devices presets. Every other preset is a no go and comes up with the message mentioned above.

Any help on this intriguing, frustrating, annoying problem would be most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Alex

Yes, I experienced this.Don’t know what causes it, but I can tell you what fixed it for me.

I opened a New project in PrP. Then saved it and closed PrP. When I started up PrP again I was able to open the older existing project that wouldn’t open before.

    Hi Tom,

Well that does sound weird. I did try that and it didn’t work for me.

The only way it seems I can progress is to create a new project and then import the specific sequences I’ve been working on from my original project into the new one and then re-import all the raw vision.

If you’re having similar issues then surely it must be some sort of bug??

    Thoughts?

Well it might have been a bug but it was fixed months ago. I guess it just sounded similar.

If you call Adobe Tech Support ask to be escalated and get Vinay to help. He is a very smart, helpful guy.

Sorry Tom what do you mean fixed months ago? Did you do what you mentioned above and then never had the problem again?

BTW Thanks heaps for your Hello PC my old friend article. It was very helpful. We’re currently looking at HPZ820’s with either NVidia Quadro 4000’s or GTX680’s. There’s still bit of debate going on about the best video cards to get.

Like you, we see the whole internet/virus thing as a constant PITA without any easy foreseeable solution other than as you say just editing off the net and just hooking up for updates and subscription renewals etc.

Oh well you gotta roll with the punches.

    Cheers,
    Alex

It was addressed in the beta testing of CS6 that I was a participant in.
Yes, HP didnt allow me to configure the Nvidia Maximus setup using the Quadro 4000 and the Tesla 2075 which is one of the reasons I looked else where.

Im glad you enjoyed the article!

[Tom Daigon] “It was addressed in the beta testing of CS6 that I was a participant in”

Ok. So the fact that I am still experiencing it would indicate I have a problem somewhere…?

I guess calling Adobe Tech support is my best bet.

I feel like plug-in issues and licensing verification issues have been plaguing PPr6.

I apologize for the pointless vent.

Edit: I just found this link: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/missing-sequence-presets.html

the only solution is create new project and use any preset. now right in the bin and try to import the project that is not open. it will asked u to select the sequence. choose it and open it that’s it. all the best
