No Quicktime Settings in Compressor 4.0.2 – WHAT VERSION HAS IT?
I learned the basics of how to use the application, “Compressor” on a MAC. After I imported my clip, in the settings, I would choose a setting under the Quicktime folder. It gave me very good quality at a low file size.
However, the version I recently installed, Compressor 4.0.2, does not have a Quicktime folder in the settings section. I’m not sure what version the one I learned on was. Does anybody know what version has the Quicktime settings or if there is a comparable setting in this version? Is it possible I installed incorrectly?
In this version, under the master Apple folder, the sub folders are named:
Apple Devices (w 3 settings)
Audio Formats (w 6 settings)
Disc Burning (w 3 settings)
HTTP Live Streaming (w 7 settings)
Motion Graphics (w 4 settings)
MPEG Files (w 4 settings)
Podcasting (w 3 settings)
ProRes (w 4 settings)
Uncompressed (w 2 settings)
Video Sharing Services (5 settings)The raw file exported out of FCP7 is 5.5 GB. I need a file under 5 GB for DVD and a small file for internet streaming.

MPEG-2 .m2v is not QuicktimeInternet can be Video Sharing Services but Http Live Streaming as well as Apple Devices and Podcasting can work.

Given the naming of the preset folders things aren’t quite as obvious as they were before. Sometimes when Apple tries to make things easier, it becomes more complex for some thinking people. I am happy that they’ve include H.264 .mp4 support though because many people want the code in .mp4 rather than Quicktime .mov. Of course it’s not obvious where the .mp4 presets are either. Basically Apple tries to describe intent rather than codec which is where the confusion is.

I just realized that the standard definition Quicktimes are missing, and this really irks me. Again a time when Apple decides that something is dead prematurely. I need to make my XDCAM movies into Standard Def files for my client to edit with, and I needed to go back to Compressor 3.5, which is about 4 hours in so far. I tried Squeeze, and didn’t see an SD NTSC preset there, so I gave up on that quickly. Why couldn’t Apple have included the same presets just buried them like they were in 3.5?
