    Hi Guys,
Can anyone tell me why i have no Quicktime presets in PP CS5?
I tried to import some Pro Res clips and i get a “File Import Failure” message with an error message saying”The file has no audio or video streams”.I’ve watched some tutorials online on importing files and seen that some users have a Quicktime option in their Capture Format dropdown menu in the project settings-and also a Quicktime option in the editing mode and one in the Preview File Format dropdown menu…i have neither!
I am using an iMac with Snow Leopard installed with Quicktime X and FCP 7 installed so have no clue how i’m not getting any Quicktime options in premiere pro…
    Any advice??

    Cheers,

    john.

QuickTime X may be the problem. Go to your original Snow Leopard installation disk. On it is QT 7 (somewhere). Remove X and install 7. Thats what I did and all the codecs were then accessible by CS5.

I’m have the same problem… Premiere Pro 5.5.1 doesn’t show any quicktime presets. I tried the remove QT 10 and install from the SL dvd (Optional Installs). Rebooted… QT 7 was in a applications/utilities folder… launched PP no joy on QT sequence presets.
Moved QT7 to the application folder… Reboot and launched PP again no joy.. No QT sequence presets.
Went Back to the SL Install dvd, to see if I could be specific about “where to install” But it will basically only let you select a drive, and not a location on a drive.

I have a bunch of screen scrapes of software captured in a Mov format (Uncompressed) I thought I could use as a live transition project moving away from FCS3…
    Any Ideas to move forward.

    Near term…
    With Premiere Pro:
    1) Hope there is a Quicktime answer somewhere (really looked hard on “The Google”)
    2) Select a reasonably matching HDV, Digital SLR or DV-NTSC preset, size to output… stir frequently!!!

    With FCP7:
    1) Go back with my tail between my legs… And learn nothing new….

I understand Apple and Adobe are not friends… but this seems… like a really big hole to me…

FCP and PrP function very differently. FCP is Prores based and PrP is universal and will play any format natively. I strongly advise you to get this book because its clear to me that you need to understand how PrP works so you can effectively edit with it.

    https://www.amazon.com/Editors-Guide-Adobe-Premiere-Pro/dp/0321773012

That being said PrP will play any clip and if you use the Create Sequence function, it will match the sequence to the clip. Its crucial that the basic FORMAT parameters match the clip, NOT the codec. The crucial time to select Prores is when exporting. AME gives you the option to export in MANY Quicktime formats.

I hope this helps. I got that book and found that I was banging my head against the wall a lot less. 😀

( There are even QT options for Preview Files, but understanding PrPs workflow is necessary to understand the role of Preview files, which are nothing like FCP render files. I hesitated to even mention them since it could only serve to confuse things.)
