    Hello,
I opened after effects on a company computer and there is no composition preview. It is a black screen in the comp window with a wireframe “X” representing the media I brought into the timeline.

I imported various media, placed it on the timeline, and still no preview in the comp window. Cap Locks are NOT on. The opacity is at 100%. I can click on the media in the bin and see my source files are all okay. I can even use the make movie command and see my media after it had been rendered and exported as an AVI and that works.

I even tried to change the background color, but all I see is a black comp window.

What can I do to see my work and media in the composition window? Perhaps this is a simple setting I need to change? Otherwise I cannot work.

I’m on a PC running windows XP, using AE 6.0 Professional.

    Please help.
    thanks
    kevin

So you see just the black comp window?
But when can you see that wireframe X? After you bring the media into the timeline? If so,m then try selecting the layer(s) and go to:

    Layer > Quality

Make sure that the Wireframe option isn’t ticked.
If it is, change it to Best.
