  • No preview in Bridge for text effects presets

Posted by Mike Prindle on July 21, 2009 at 6:09 am

Has anyone with AE CS4 and Bridge CS4 experienced the same problem as me? When in AE and wanting to apply a text effect preset, I click the “Browse Presets” which takes me to Bridge to choose the desired canned effect. The first time I selected my choice (Text raining in), the preview window in the upper right corner of the Bridge panel would play back the effect sequence of the effect selected – which is what it’s supposed to do. But then after the first (and last) occasion of this preview playback, it never would happened again. The playback pointer below the preview window slides across the bar, but the screen remains black – no preview of the effect.

I can’t determine if this is a Bridge issue or AE issue.

I can’t find a fix that works after checking the Adobe knowledgebase. Anyone experienced this? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I don’t have an answer for why your preview isn’t working in Bridge, but I can point you to a web page that contains previews of the animation presets that come with After Effects, including the text animation presets.

See the gallery of text animation presets.

And, by the way, these are not effects. That may just seem like a terminology quibble, but you’ll have a lot more success with After Effects if you understand the difference between effects and animation presets.

    Hi Todd,
I am new to the AE product – busy reading books, viewing tutorials, and playing with the basics. Yes, I’m still not too familiar with the technical terminolgy. I am trying to wrap my mind around the seeming immensity of AE and all its functions and features. I’m trying to understand the how’s and why’s of the functions instead of merely memorizing routines.

Thanks for pointing out the distinct (presets vs effects), and thanks for the references to the sites. I remain amazed at the capacity and potential of this product.

Responding quite a bit later, now that I found a solution to this. Hopefully, this will help others who search and find this thread. See “Previews won’t play in Bridge? Turn on software rendering”.

    It´s an After Effects Issue.

    Do the following:

    1) Save your After Effects Projects and close After Effects.
    2) Restart your Computer.
    3) Open Adobe Bridge directly from the Start Menu.
    4) Go to:

    C: -> Programs (x86) -> Adobe -> Adobe After Effects CS4 -> Support Files -> Presets -> Text -> Animate In -> click on “Raining Characters In.ffx”

    5) In the right upper corner under “Preview” the sample animation should start play.
    6) KEEP Bridge open and open After Effects.

Preview of the Effect should work now in After Effects as well!

    Cheers Chris.
