    Hi Everybody,

    my problem is the following:
for some reason I’m not able to control my DV-camera within Avid Software any more. The camera connects correctly to WIN XP via firewire. But in Avid Software the digital output device says “no deck”. checking or adjusting desks does not bring up the device.
Even deleting the only existing channel in the deck configuration menu and creating a new one does not work. I can create a new firewire-channel, but I can only check “no port”.
All that worked out with the same camera very fine till december 07.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you very much in advance.

    Yours,
    Andreas

Have you made any changes to your system (perhaps you have windows auto update turned on? If so, do not pass go – turn it off…)

What type of camera is it? What version of Avid are you using?

    Hi Jon,

I did not change anything, but yes, I had automatical windows updates switched on. I already thought about that and checked out that I would have to delet about 7-10 security updates. If you think that my problem is caused by a windows update then that would be the only possibility, would’nt it?

    my camera: Canon XM1
my avid: Avid Xpress Pro 4.0.1

    regards,
    Andreas

I checked the Avid site for your camera (https://www.avid.com/content/8927/SUPPORTED%20DEVICES%20FOR%20AVID%20EDITOR%20PRODUCTS.pdf) and its not listed. That doesn’t mean the camera didn’t work, or that it won’t work. The camera may have stopped working because of an update. Do you have another firewire device you could try, preferebly from the approved list?

If you don’t, try rolling back your OS before the updates were installed and see if you can get the camera working again.

Unfortunately I don’t have any other fitting firewire-device I could try. (I wouldn’t be able to check that with a firewire-connected HDD, wouldn’t I?) I know that my camera is not listed, but it worked fine before.

I deleted the updates till when it works, but even now – and after rebooting my system – I can’t get the camera connect to Avid or make Avid create a firewire-OHCI-port.

Does anyone have another glorious idea?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Andreas –

Could you post your system specs? Meaning OS version, RAM, video card, everything…

    – 1,4 GHz, 495 MB RAM

    XP home is not supported.
    You don’t have enough RAM.

In short, you have an unsupported system.

You can find the system specs here:
    https://www.avid.com/products/xpresspro/qualified_pc_workstations.pdf

You got away (and most do) with this for a while. I suspect even though you uninstalled the updates, something stuck around to keep your software from working.
