  • “No movie in file” in FCP 5?

    Dear Creative Cow

I have been using the latest FCP 5 on the latest G5 with the latest OS X, I had a bit of a melt down with my HUGE raid drive and had to re-import some footage. Complete disaster, wasted two days but now semi back to normal except I am now plagued by gremlins, most of which I can sort out but the big one is:

when I play some sequences it stops at a certain point and says “No movie in file”, I play the sequence again and it stops at the same point and says “General Error” then quits out of FCP 5. I have reimported the clip, redigitized the clip, done the disk utility thing, but what ever I do it still has the same problem in the sequence timeline. I have copied the sequence to the a new sequence and the same problem occurs. I can’t render past this point either. Any suggestions ? I only have 8 programmes to cut some of which are airing at the end of the month so no panic?

    Kind regards

    Ben

Binary test. Try copying the media file to a another drive and reconnect to it. If it still hangs in the same place, your media file is bad. Is it a bad capture, a bad FW cable, a bad tape, or a bad drive? More binary tests.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
