    Sorry, I’m just frustrated…

I don’t understand why there are not any 3rd party templates available. It seems to me that some of the better Motion users could realize that there is a market waiting to buy these. Many of us are frustrated with Motion but love the things it “can” do. I personally don’t have the time to “build from scratch” many of the things I would use in Motion. Some of he simpler things maybe…but to have a library of just “different” lower 3rds and bumpers I could modify, would not only have me learning Motion more, but using it more also. I very surprised that Apple hasn’t come out with any either.

Since this wasn’t the “killer app” I thought it was going to be for “my” projects (due to the learning curve and speed considerations as well as time constraints), it has since sat waiting for more or better use. Reverse engineering some that don’t apply don’t help either. Sure, some will call me lazy or worse but, when I’m editing and have tight deadlines (as most are) I (and many others) would love to have a library of templates to draw on (that I don’t have to re-build from scratch) and we could get on with our work. To be honest I suspect there’s not many templates because the program is so easy to use. If you’ve ever worked with AFX you’ll know what I mean. If you spend the time going through the main tutorial included with the program you’ll learn just about everything you need to know to run Motion proficiently.

With just a little knowledge of Motion you can create your own templates, probably faster than you can pay for them and download them off the web, it is really fast. If there really was a demand for Motion templates I’m sure there would be plenty of them available. I’m a beginner with Motion 2 but having had a little experience with After Effects, Motion is a breeze in comparision, but it still has a learning curve. Scott Simmons has an excellent Internet course on Motion 1 on VTC. You can watch it online for $30. It’s a 12 hour course that goes quite deep into the program. Motion isn’t a consumer type application like Garageband, iDVD or iPhoto and Apple advertizes it as a Pro App (meaning there is a learning curve). If you plan to do professional quality work you will find the time to learn the program instead of relying on quick solutions like templates. And by the way, the upgrade to Motion 2 is $99 not $300 and worth it in my opinion.
