If you’re on snow leopard I’ve seen this happen if you are not the “owner” of the Mac HD.

Get info on the MAC HD and check the permissions settings there. If you are not the “owner” it should allow you to set it this way.

Thanks Mathew, but unfortunately it’s still not working.

I deleted all the projects I had and started again today. That seemed to work at first; I imported 10 files from a memory card and it was fine. Then I tried to import more and got the message “The target media drive is full. Select a different target media drive”.

Does this mean the memory card is full? How do I select a different media drive?

I just had this problem, and I didn’t want to change permissions, so what i did is create a disk image through the disk utility.
And here is a link to a clear explanation of how to do it:

I was having the same problem when trying to import to a project based on my Macintosh HD not an external HD, BUT… I realised I simply had to change to “Private” rather than “External” in Avid’s ‘Select Project’ window 🙂

Hello, I am running OS Yosemite and a Version 6 of Avid Media Composer. I am getting the same message as you guys even though i am trying to import from an external drive, have switched all the permissions to ‘read and write’ and have unchecked the ‘filter out drives’ boxes. The drives just appear grey on the import page.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening and what I can do to import a file? I managed to do it all fine a couple of years ago and all i can think of that’s changed is the OS….. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!
