I have a hd blackmagic card and i cant seem to insert edit at all. the windows for insert assemble and preview do not even get highlighted. When i bring the edit to tape window up the window says no input video. I am trying to lay off to a panasonic hdv deck. The only thing i do not have is a tri sync generator. BUt i am able to print to tape but not insert edit. I have tried using different easy setups and put my sequence into a new sequence but still not able to edit to tape. Please help. Thanks

I don’t know anything about that deck but the most common explanation for this is that the deck in use does not support insert edits. There are only a few high zoot DV decks that will do edits and they perform them using pre-recod storage. the nature of DV more or less prevents insert editing since it is a digital file, not an analog tape format.

Umm, but like I say, I don’t know anything about your deck.

Thank you for your reply, but we are not going firewire we are goin in thru bnc cables fromm the hd card. and we also black and coded a tape to have code, its just that when we bring the edit to tape window up it gives us the same message of no input video. We are doing HDV, not just DV. If you have any more ideas please i would love to hear them anything will help now. Thank you

ah, you didn’t mention that earlier.
How are you controlling the deck? RS422 (or is it 244?) via the black magic box, yes?
Sounds like your issue is with Black Magic or with Panasonic, not with FCP.

ON our old Beta decks, the insert function was only enabled from a hidden menu on the deck’s operation and setup system.
