No image/black screen when previewing
Hi,
Premiere Pro has worked fine for me for a few years until tonight. I was half way through a project with everything working fine but all of a sudden I have no image displayed when i try and preview the time line, either by pressing play or by dragging the cursor through the sequence.
Weirdly, clicking the image window will change the black screen back to the correct image, but trying to preview from that point just returns the preview window to black.
The footage plays fine in the tiny thumbnail in the list of assets. I’ve tried reimporting the footage, starting a new project, moving the source footage between hard drives, restarting the system etc with no effect at all.
The source footage is Prores 422 (HD) if that makes a difference.
Anyone know how I can fix this?

– Are you sure you are looking at the Program Monitor and not the Reference Monitor?
– Is there a secondary display set up in Preferences?
– Do you have a separate video I/O card installed on your computer? -

– definitely looking at the program monitor and not the reference monitor.
– no external monitor set
– no I/O card except the nVidia GTX 460 i’ve been running for the last couple of years.I think I found a way around this but it’s kind of an annoying one and i’m not sure why this would randomly occur halfway through a project. Turning OFF GPU rendering solves the problem and I can now preview unrendered footage and render without crashing the system.
Have updated my CUDA drivers but that doesn’t seem to have helped things. Is there e reason this may have happened?

The 460 isn’t formally supported by Adobe, so it is difficult to say. I am in a similar situation and sometimes need to disable GPU acceleration.
