  • No HDV presets available in Premiere CS3

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this issue…. I desperately need to edit some HDV video in premiere cs3. However, when I create a new project I don’t have the HDV presets available. I could create a project using dv and then attempt to change the capture to hdv but only dv capture is present in the dropdown.

I wonder if this may have anything to do with my pc capability. I own an amd x2 64 5400+ with 2gb ram:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+
    2.8GHz Socket AM2
    Dual-Core Processor (OEM)

    Asus M2A-VM HDMI Socket
    AM2 690G DDR2 mATX
    Motherboard w/ HDMI
    Support, Audio, Video,
    and Gigabit LAN (RETAIL)

    Crucial 2GB (1GBx2)
    240-pin PC2-6400 DDR2 800
    Dual Channel Memory Kit

If my pc is to slow for HDV, would overclocking help a bit?

I would greatly appreciate any help with this.
    Thanks so much in advance.

In order to capture HDV footage you must be in a HDV project. If you are working in a DV project and try to capture HDV it won’t work. Start a new HDV project (presets should be there)… Capture the HDV footage being certain the HDV out of FireWire is active. HDV won’t capture DV either, it’s a limitation I know, but that’s the way it is in CS3…. i’ve got a feeling CS4 will be open to capture HDV/DV/Etc in same project.

    Nick,

Are you using a full version of Premiere Pro or a trial version? I understand that the trial version does not support HDV editing (do to mgeg licensing issues) and would probably, therefore, not have HDV presets or capturing options.

I can capture HDV footage in a DV project or DV footage in an HDV project. I just change the capture setting like you are trying to do. My version does have the new project presets and the capture options in either a DV or HDV project.

You can download presets for Canon HDV projects from the Adobe updates page for version 2 and use them in PPro 3, but they along with regular HD presets should already show up in PPro 3 if you are not using a trial version.

Yes, I am using the trial version and that seems to be the problem. I greatly appreciate your help. THanks.

It seem that I am using the trial version and that seems to be the problem. I will install the full version and try again. Thanks

By the way, let me as you what you think about my machine capabilities to run cs3 and edit hdv. Nothing fancy, just cuts.

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+
    2.8GHz Socket AM2
    Dual-Core Processor (OEM)

    Asus M2A-VM HDMI Socket
    AM2 690G DDR2 mATX

    Crucial 2GB (1GBx2)
    240-pin PC2-6400 DDR2 800
    Dual Channel Memory Kit

Do you think I am going to be able to edit hdv with these? Thanks
