  • No external video playback, capturing is fine.

This may be an easy fix, but I am stumped. I am unable to get my video to playback on the external monitor whereas the same setup has worked for years. It has had the same hardware setup for several years. I did recently upgrade 5.1 to 5.1.4 on this machine, but can’t recall if the problem appeared before or after or if it did work after the upgrade, but now doesn’t.

    Here’s my setup:
FCP 5.1.4 running on a dual 1.8 G5 tower connected via firewire 400 to a JVC SR-V530 running out to a panasonic non-professional monitor (read TV) via RCA.

I am able to get audio & video when played directly from the deck either by miniDV or SVHS. I can capture both formats correctly via log & capture with device control set appropriately.

I have set & reset the correct settings in FCP for audio playback and video playback (audio follows video, video is Apple FireWire NTSC 720×480). I have turned each machine on and off independently. I have swapped out the firewire wire cable with another that I know works (pulled off another machine). Settings for the canvas are correct. Video playback is mirrored on desktop.

I’m sure there’s other info I’ve forgotten to include here, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I am feeling scorned by my machinery.

    thanks,
    nick

so basically no signal is going out from your system to the deck?

is the deck in DV input mode?

The deck is definitely in DV mode (I have switched out and back to cnfirm). And, yes, basically I am getting no signal from the computer.

    I am still stumped.
