    Hi folks,

On my dual 2.7gHz G5, system 10.4.6, I recently upgraded from Avid DVX Pro to Media Composer 2.5 and added an SDI Mojo. I have a UVW-1800 Beta deck and a DSR-80 DVCAM deck. I have connected the RS-422 cables from those decks to a Keyspan Serial-to-USB adapter, yet the AVID refuses to see the decks. Picture and sound come in fine, just no deck. In AVID settings, Communication(Serial)Ports, the correct port (USA28Xb1P2) is selected, yet I’m still not able to get any machine control. Any pointers?

Final Cut Pro HD, however, can see my decks just fine. In the deck control settings in FCP, I selected the USA28Xb1P2 port and it instantly recognized my deck. Plus, my Keyspan Serial Assistant recognizes the ports, so I’m thinking this must be an issue from within the Avid software rather than any hardware problem.

Upon quitting the Media Composer, I always get this error:

Have you set up your decks in deck preferences? (settings tab>deck preferences) and double click on each deck and select the correct keyspan channel.

The decks don’t show up in the Deck Preferences window, it is completely blank.

    Hi Tim,

Are you using 2.5 or 2.5.1, 2.5.2 or the recent 2.5.3?

Also, check to make sure you do not have more than one keyspan driver installed. Do you see the deck in the Keyspan control panel?

I believe the version number is 2.5.04. Should I upgrade? If so, do I need to oprade my OS from 10.4.6?

Engineering QA was able to find workaround that has worked for many people runnng into this problem:

If two decks are going to be configured at the same time, create two Deck Configuration Settings.
    – Duplicate the default Deck Configuration Setting.
    – Rename both Deck Configurations (example port 1 and port 2).
    – Open port 1 Deck Configuration Setting.
    – Select Direct from the Channel Type pulldown menu.
    – Select USA 28x port 1 from the Port pulldown menu.
    – Auto configure the deck.
    – Apply and save the Deck Configuration.
    – Open Deck Configuration port 2.
    – Perform the same deck configuration with this deck except choose USA 28x port 2 for this deck. There will now be two separate Deck Configurations, one for each deck that correspond to each port of the USA 28x.
    – Click to the left of the Deck Configuration setting to activate a particular setting depending on the deck you are using at that time.

The two Deck Configuration Settings should now work correctly when restarting or powering down/up the CPU. Let me know if this solves the problem.

The problem is not so much that I have two decks, it’s more just getting the computer to talk to any of them. I have a switcherbox for my rs-422, so it’s only one cable hooked into the serial port. When I go to Deck Configuration Settings, it loads machine templates but nothing shows up. No generic deck setting, nothing. I know the computer can see these ports, as FCP works fine, but the Avid itself can’t seem to be able to. Is this a known problem with the version of this software?

    Thanks!
    Tim
