I have a Mac G5 quad with a Decklink HD Extreme card running all the latest form Apple and Blackmagic.

I am trying to use the Decklink audio input with the FCP Voice Over tool and I get no input. I have an AKG C3000 running into my mixer, fantom on, have audio off the mixer through headphones and I can route the audio to my Beta SP deck and get levels on its meters as well.

Nothing I do will get the audio into the Decklink. I’ve tried the VO tool, Soundtrack Pro, and even just looking at the meters in the Sound control panel. Nadda. I have my input set to Component Beta SP/Analog balanced audio in the Decklink control panel.

    Any ideas?

Make sure you send video into the decklink also. The decklink won’t record anything unless you also give it video.

    Hi Damon,

As Yves mentioned, you need a token video source in order to capture audio with your DeckLink card. The DeckLink card is basically an SDI card with some additional analog convertors on it. SDI accepts video with embedded audio. If there is no video signal, then there is no signal to carry the audio and that’s why you must have some kind of video source, even if you are using the analog inputs of the card.

I also recommend you see the support notes Voice Over Tool in Final Cut Pro and Apple SoundTrack Pro

I have the same problem with the Decklink Extreme. I used my iSight to try a voice over – just for fun… that works. I see the picture on the monitor, hear the original sound and could capture audio.
So I think there must be an XLR to USB (or optical) converter installed on the system to make the voice over function work as it is needed by most of the editors (by using a different input of your MAC).
It is a bit sad because I switched from the CineWave where all this voice over things works perfect.
