    Hello guys,

I’ve been running into a probelm with my newly installed Sony Vegas 7.0. Whenever I open an AVI file, there is no audio that goes along with it, only the movie. I tried opening MP3s and they open and play just fine. Am I doing something wrong?

“AVI” is a filename extension – not a type of video. What TYPE of video is in the AVI file? AVI can hold many different types of video.

    HI,

Am having the same trouble. The video plays but the audio in the timeline says, ‘media offline’? My WMV files both video and audio work fine.

Am not sure what you mean by what type of AVI files but my video are tv shows i’ve downloaded of the internet? are they too big?

I read somewhere that putting them and saving your files into movie maker. As this reduces the size of the file?

    Thanks

[chrisabel noyes] “but my video are tv shows i’ve downloaded of the internet? are they too big?”

In that case, my guess would be they’re XVid or DivX with an audio format that Vegas doesn’t support. You’ll need to use some other program to convert the audio into a format that Vegas can read.

BTW, you can use a program like “GSpot” to determine the real codec used for the video and audio in those files.

…my video are tv shows i’ve downloaded of the internet?

That means that they’re probably some form of either Divx or Xvid, both of which are problematic for Vegas to read.
I’m sure there are converters somewhere to change them into a format Vegas will recognize but I have no idea which ones would work.
