Hi … I’m on a G4 OSX 10.4.7 QT 7.1.2 A/Effects 6.5 and I can play an audio track in itunes or indeed quicktime but when I drag it into AE there’s not even a waveform … I think I’ve done everything … reinstalled QT and AE, repaired permissions … can’t imagine it’s related but I can’t hear audio on movie trailers off the apple site and more importantly no sound with a Cow podcast … I’ve checked and removed some conflicting codecs in the library … searched tha apple site … almost everything I can think of … maybe someone else has a bright idea (I seem to be going round in circles)… I hope so … thanks for your time … Roger

Do you hear the music in Afx?
Iff so, you just open your waveform in the the timeline and then you have them.
Otherwise maby you should convert files in different extensions, file like .wav or something.

Thanks Dave but I’ve tried Aiffs and wavs … still get the flat waveform … I’ve reinstalled I’ve gone through all my apps and deleted anything that possibly might conflict … I’ve removed any codecs that might cause a problem I even bought the QT mpeg2 component in the vague (and foolish hope) that it might help… I’m really stuck … I can’t work on AE projects at home and have to stick to my office PC … not good !

are you getting an error message ? -2166 ?

it may be your OS with AE 6.5

there are known audio conflicts between various combinations of
OSX 10.4.x , QT 7, and AE 6.5 or lower versions.

there is a thread on this is at:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=2&postid=881556
    ————————————————
i’m still using AE 5.5, with OSX 10.4 generic, and QT 7
when i upgraded to OSX 10.4.6 all my AE audio became unplayable
in the comp/timeline. i tried various OS and QT downgrades until
i settled on QT7 with OSX 10.4 generic.

of course i should upgrade everything but for a
small indy freelancer thats not always easy…

Thanks for that Harvola … figures I guess but what a pain … trying to work-out the correct comination … I can’t really afford to upgrade to 7 either especially as we are still on 6.5 at work so I’m currently still compatible … best Roger

    hello-

I don’t have any answers, I just want to confirm that I have exactly the same problem!! No audio on podcasts, certain sites won’t play audio (but if I download the movie, it will play)…. and..after effects will not give me a waveform, playback or any information. The same files work on my laptop ae5.5 (I have ae 6.5 on my g5 brand new tower)

if I apply tone (effect) to an audio clip this will render and export. Otherwise I have no audio.

thanks Roger, for starting the thread!!
p.s.- do you use cleaner (discreet) on the same computer? I have problems with this, too!

    pete
