May 11, 2019 at 2:24 amHi George & Francois,
Thank you very much for this magnificent explanation.
It’s a fantastic help and it seems that Vegas will be my program of choice for this task.
No, rendering times are not an issue… as long as they are reasonable. If they tell me three days I may have my doubts.
Another thing I will have to learn how to do it more accurately is the bitrates, or I may end up with BIG files when there’s no need for them.
It seems that Vegas for video and Audacity for audio will be my programs of choice for simple & sophisticated editing and cleaning tools.

May 11, 2019 at 11:40 amAs you know I have started playing around with some “enhancement” filters in Vegas.
The objective is to “disguise”, as we can’t really correct, characteristics in video images generated in SD.
Perhaps we may agree that there are at least three areas that we can work on to make that disguise be more effective.
1) Sharpen. Pity Vegas has only one filter for that, as we had a few in Avisynth, which I don’t know if any company, like BorisFX, included them into their tools;
2) Border enhancement. This effect unfortunately becomes quite apparent when higher degrees of sharpening are applied. Softening the image attenuates it somehow, but it also goes against the sharpening.
3) Contrast adjustment. This adjustment, applied sparingly and subtly, can do wonders on that disguise I’m talking about.
So my questions are: which are the best filters available for these three areas and who makes them?
Controlling border enhancement is probably the most difficult task of all.

May 11, 2019 at 1:58 pmHi Carlos,
I’ll leave the after market Fx plugins to others as I’m only familiar with the native tools within Vegas.
As for the contrast and color adjustments, I think ‘3D LUT Creator’ is about the best you can get. Very powerful and easy to use. I think it runs about $100 USD for the simple version.
Best Regards……George

May 11, 2019 at 4:42 pmHi George,
I just mentioned BorisFX because there’s a Creativecow YouTube video about HiRez, not because I have any preference for them.
In fact I would love to know of any other available filters from other houses and if there’re videos showing how to do things with them.
