I get no audio after importing a .aiff file. It is 48k 16 bit Stereo.

All of my other audio that was captured through my DVCPro 50 deck plays back fine.

It is a speech that was captured as a QuickTime aiff.

I should mention that it plays fine when cut into a time line. But it’s a long speech and I need to edit it. I can not hear it when it’s in the viewer.

    I’m on a G5 Dual 2.5 with FCP 4.5. Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    JD

First thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCPro & FCExpress.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

Sorry I forgot to mention the obvious. I have done that and still NO AUDIO.

And I use FCP Rescue. a handy tool.

    UPDATE

Our Project is DVCPro 50. We have a AJ-SD93 connected to our system via Firewire.

When I switch the Playback Output (Under Audi/Video Settings) from Apple Firewire DVCPro50 NTSC (720×480) to Apple Firewire NTSC (720×480), the audio plays fine in the Viewer but picture is pixelated because it is a DVCPro deck.

    Can anyone explain this?

    thanks,

    Just a thought.

The Final Cut Pro (menu) > “Easy Setup” should have been set to “DV50-NTSC” before you captured.
This should be done first thing as you start a new project.
Then the timeline and capture should match.

If you DID this, I’m stumped.
