no audio playback from timeline
If I click on an audio file in the project window it plays fine but in the timeline I get no playback either scrubbing the playhead or after render .
The audio checkbox on the far left is on.
In Composition > Preview the Audio item is checked. (If I select Audio Preview Here Forward) I can hear the audio but this seems to perform a render.
There must be something I am missing about the way AE handles audio?

AE timeline won’t play audio when you scrub unless you hold down ctrl. Likewise audio won’t play if you simply press spacebar to play the timeline.
In your time controls window make sure that the audio button doesn’t have a cross over it.
Do you get audio if you press RAM preview? ( “O” on number pad)
Do you get audio if you do an audio only preview? (press the “.” button on the number pad)
Do you get audio if you actually render out a QT file?
