I can skim clips in the clip browser and the audio plays but when I connect to the storyboard (timeline) the audio is connect to the clip and I can see the audio monitor moving but no sound is coming out? Hope I’m not going insane

    Me too.

Try Quitting FCPX, trash your prefs, and restart your machine.

you might need to set the pan mode
click the clip on the timeline and open the inspector, and click on the audio tab
you may need to set the pan mode to stereo

The audio clip attached to the clip is mono its footage from an iPhone that I’m using to test somethings. I can scrub the audio in the clip browser and even in the audio inspector! But not in the timeline.

make sure your project is in stereo
    file > project properties
and then click the wrench in the inspector

It wasn’t it was in Surround for some reason but I’m not sure whether that was the actual problem. The Mono audio channel is set to mono and won’t work in the timeline when when set to Center, why not?
Least I’m getting sound out now will have an in-depth play with these settings.
    Thanks
