  • no audio on m2v export??

Posted by John Graves on August 30, 2006 at 6:27 am

Since I’ve reinstalled FCP3 it has been acting a little strangely.

The point is, when I try to export MPEG 2 for DVD authoring, it is telling me I am exporting with NO AUDIO. I must be missing something really obvious! I can’t find anything in the options dialog. Can anyone clue me in as to what I am doing wrong???

When I do quicktime export, I am seeing it render in an unusual way. The frames actually playback slowly on my NTSC monitor. It didn’t used to be like that. I’m not sure my system is rendering correctly.

    PUZZLED 🙁

Reinstalled? Did you change versions? What version are you using?
A .m2v file is video only. Assuming you have a version of FCP that includes Compressor, you should export your sequence to Compressor, and give it both an MPEG 2 Setting (I’ll leave the particulars to you), and and AC3 (Dolby) setting. Import both of these files into your DVD authoring program (presumably DVD Studio Pro), and put them in the same track. They won’t be merged into one file until the DVD is compiled.
    Hope that helps,
    Zak

I am using FCP3. I’ve done this procedure before, and it always worked. Perhaps I’ll have to change my routine, but I’m telling you, when i exported mpeg 2’s, it always generated audio along with the video. In this case, it’s in fact exporting audio only, no video, which is most puzzling.

In your two posts you used two diiferent terms.
an m2v file is a MPEG-2 video only file, no audio, as Zak said.
An MPEG-2 file is a muxed file containing mpeg-2 video AND audio, together.

Are you getting confused in what you are trying to create?

I will attempt to clear up the confusion I have created. What I meant was…

When I attempt to export MPEG 2’s in FCP3, it says NO VIDEO. What am I doing wrong?

    sincere thanks

Something is profoundly wrong with my FCP3 Export. Not only do my m2v’s export with NO VIDEO, but also any quicktimes I try to output don’t turn out.

For example, I try to export a quicktime at 8 megs a second, what I get is a quicktime with an all white image with a data rate of 600K per second.

Yet when I was bullding the project, of when I capture footage, everything is fine there. The clips look as they should. Any clues??

I solved the problem by installing FCP and DVDSP in OSX. I am now outputting m2v’s, thanks for your advice. I appreciate it.

    sincere regards
