  • No audio in v210 codec video

My client send me some raw avi’s that are 720×486 4:2:2 and require the v210 codec. I installed the codec and Premiere Pro 1.5 will recognize the video, will put it in it’s timeline (both audio and video tracks) and allow me to cut it, key it, whatever. The problem is the audio is missing. If I preview the video clip in my library bin it plays back fine, both the video and the audio play. But the minute I put it in the timeline the audio disappears, even though the track is there and unmuted, it’s apparent the audio is gone as the waveform is flat.

So why is premiere recognizing the audio when in the library bin but not when on the timeline?

Did you load a video capture card manuf. Quicktime V210 codec? say Like Blue fish? if so most require the card present and only play back ASIO sound through the card. If you have the card did you load QT 6.5 or above to your system?

The codec I loaded is the drastic codec

I don’t have any physical card myself. I received the video from a client who received it from another production house.

Do I need a physical card to work with this type of video or is there a different codec I can use?
AE7 seems to recognize it and work with it just fine.

10 bit codecs usually come attached to a card that can use them, what the drastic codec does in Ppro I’ma don’t know.

The Drastic Codecs work with or without Hardware Cards like the Aurora, AJA/Kona, DVS, OptiBase, VideoPump etc., the main difference is, that you can edit 8/10 Bit Encoded Videos in all YCbCR Color Spaces without any loss of quality. I use them all the time and compress to the final Format when all editing is done (MP4,MPEG etc.) to uphold the quality. The native “YUV” Codecs, that come with Windows play a YUY2 Video in RGB24, NOT YUY2 plus they are decode only (!) while the Drastic Codecs play that Color Space that was used for compression. Further, there are no Optimisations with the native Windows Codecs like MMX etc. any more but with the Drastic Codecs you have MMX,SSE and SSE2, it’s up to you what performs better 🙂

This Problem with “No Audio with v210 Codec” has nothing to do with the Drastic Codecs, that’s a Capturing or Transfer Problem. I recommend to check the Settings. All the Producers i know, that use the Drastic Codecs, never reported such a Problem, that’s including me too.

I know, this is a older Thread, but maybe thi Information is still helpfull to some Users.

    Regards, Mick.
