No audio in MPEG-2?

What template are you using?

Some of the MPEG2 templates that come with Vegas deliberately encode only the video because some DVD authoring applications (including DVD Architect, which comes with Vegas) prefer that the video and audio be in separate files. If your intention is to create a DVD with such an application, then you would then do a second “render” for the audio — choosing the filetype and template appropriate for your needs. (When working with DVD Architect, this will usually be Dolby Digital AC-3 and either the stereo or 5.1 surround template. Or, if you want PCM audio, choose WAV.)

If, on the other hand, you are not taking this video to DVD or you’re using a DVD authoring app that prefers a single file that has both audio and video, then choose a different template. (The video-only templates are labeled as such: DVD Architect video stream.) Or click the Custom button, and check the box labeled “Include Audio” (or whatever).

For the record, you could give DVD Architect a single file, but it’s going to have to re-encode the audio according to your DVD Architect project settings.

Hey that really helped. I’ve figured out how to make the audio render along with it, but I’m still confused as to how I get the audio behind the video if I were to render separately. Do I just put the two files in when I’m rendering to a DVD? Also, would Nero be able to do this?

If you give the MPEG2 and AC3 (or WAV) files the exact same name (other than the three letter extension) and save them to the same folder, DVD Architect will automatically find and pull in the audio file when you add the video file.

And if it doesn’t for some reason, you can simply locate the audio file in the Explorer window and drag it to the audio track for the movie’s timeline or add it using the movie’s Media Properties window.

I have never used Nero for DVD authoring, so I couldn’t tell you what it can or can’t do. I would presume, though, that it has a function for choosing an audio file.

Hi guys,

I have recently purchased Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro. I have taken the video from the camera to the computer and then on to the track for video. Now for some reason I cannot work out how to get the sound from the video to be heard. What am I doing wrong? Or what do I need to do to get both sound and video picture? Is there just a user friendly manual?

What kind of camera? (make/model/video format)

Do you get an audio track on the timeline?

If you have an audio track is there a waveform displayed?

Sharyn, I originally had your problem as well. I tried to bring the video from my camera to my computer, and then when playing it in Vegas 9 didn’t have any audio. This, unlike the no audio in mpeg 2 issue, is an actual bug. I went out to the website for the product though and found they had an update for Vegas 9. It upgraded the product to version 9.0b (Build 66), and once I upgraded to 9.0b it all started working. I can’t remember what the exact version was on the Vegas Installation CD (either 9.0 or 9.0a), but I needed that update to get any audio with my video.

Does rendering in mpeg-1 just by selecting it will include the sound or I really have to check something in order to have it included ?

If mpeg-1 doesn’t include the sound, I would prefer using mpeg2 and check something to include the sound.

as the video is not for DVD production but just for viewing as is

MPEG-1 does include audio.
The description when you select the default template says:
Audio: 224 Kbps, 44,100 Hz, Layer 2
Video: 29.970 fps, 720×480
