If you use this workflow you will not have to render files when you place them on the timeline. Exporting will also be much faster.

Open Compressor and convert your .AVI files to ProRes 422

    Now Open FCP

Save your Easy Setup now for future use.
Edit the movie and Export like this.

After Export use this movie to import into DVD Studio and burn a DVD.
I’ve use this workflow to create a Blu-ray disk, but that’s a new tutorial. I’m using Sony Vegas DVD Architect to author the BD. It works very well and can have detailed menus with sub chapters.

Two things to add to your welcome and comprehensive post. Audio should be 48Khz not 44.1khz as your setup indicates. All digital video should be 48khz so if the Nikon records 44.1 like the Canon D5 it should be converted to 48 khz as it goes through Compressor and the sequence therefore set to 48khz as well.

Also search this forum for Gary Adcock’s excellent advice on ProRes 422 versus ProRes (HQ). With 1280 x 720 material I think Gary’s advice is to stay with plain old ProRes and not bother with HQ.

Michael, Thank you so much, I’ll make the change and check out the other posts.

Michael, I’m making the changes. In the Compressor Droplet I had audio set to Pass Through so that’s why it was 44.1. I’m changing it to 48. Should it be PCM, AAC or other?

For editing, your audio should be PCM.
