Any idea when the next version of Premiere Pro might be coming & if it would be adding features like Multicam, multiformats (esp HDV) on the same timeline like Avid will be offering?

What is normal, a new release by the end of the year, next spring, summer, what do you think?

Just a guess based on previous experience….

The last new version came out a while after the new version of Photoshop. So maybe history will repeat itself. If that is the case, then you can guess about the same amount of time, perhaps? Who knows?

Look at Amazon’s future books for hints. This is not a sure bet, but it may wet your noodle.

I don’t get the entire secrecy with Adobe. Why not just share with us what’s upcoming so we don’t make a hasty decision and switch to FCP or Avid…man…sorry…I’m frustrated. Can’t wait for version 2.

Anybody willing to switch to FCP because Adobe does not want to ruin current sales by encouraging people to wait for the next revision was probably going to convert anyway.

They don’t tell us because if they say they are going to do “A”, “B” and “C”, and then they realize they can not get “B” done in time, they know wveryone will complain more about that than they do about the secrecy.

I really cannot understand why people get so anxious as to when Adobe will release the next version of Premiere and the video collection. When 2 comes out, we will start hearing that the update was not worth – I will bet on that.
Adobe released Premiere Pro (7.0) in August 2003. In April 2004 – eight months later – 1.5 came out. At the time everyone was complaining because of the short period between releases and a lot o people felt ripped off. The professional guys, at he same time, were really happy because Adobe did address a few shortcomings of the first release. I think if one really wants to go to FCP or whatever, just go ahead and do it. Just do not blame the secrecy on Adobe’s part.
I really like they are not rushing to put 2 out. Maybe we will benefit from a more mature product.
To be honest, I do not think there is anything you cannot do now, that you will be able to do with 2. It will probably make things easier, but it will make no miracles.

Well, being in the software business, I can tell you that people make decisions on what software to purchase (or switch to) based on what is going on with the current version and development all the time. Multi-Cam support is happening in most new NLEs, so it would be nice for Adobe to say, “yeah….we will have that.” That is something they know they will either have in 2.0 or not. It’s a major thing. We get previews of software all the time (Visual Studio.Net 2005 Beta, Flash updates, ColdFusion previews, etc. etc. etc.).

Anyhow, I personally love Adobe Premiere Pro and I will stick with it, but it would be nice to hear some news about it. Questioning and demanding from a software company is a good thing. It keeps the software competitive.

    My 2 cents.
    Cheers!
