Nex vg20 with ninja
Connecting the nex vg10/20 to a atomos ninja via . Will it give a better picture? Can it record prores 422 at all?

Atomos support is great – have you posted the question? They responded to my pre-sales questions within 24 hours.
One thing you can test right away – connect the VG to a TV with HDMI. Make sure you can eliminate any on-screen info.
