Newsprint effect but in color
Posted by Jack Hilkewich on March 20, 2007 at 7:10 amIs there a way to get this? I have a cartoon look that I want but now I’d like to add the little dots. I have searched the archives but to no avail.
Thanks

March 20, 2007 at 8:05 amTake a look at the Boris Continuum halftone filter. You can do B&W dots, RGB dots, CMY or even CMYK. Very customisable and quick to render.

March 20, 2007 at 3:02 pmthere is a free effect that creates halftone like dot patterns… not sure about color halftones, but you may be able to separate your color channels and apply to each… its been a long time since i used it.

March 20, 2007 at 5:19 pmOK, fun project. Without third party plugins, try these:
1) Pete’s Plugins (Oh, technically 3rd party, but it’s a freebie, so doesn’t count as 3rd party to me). There is a Halftone, also a TV Pixel.
https://www.petewarden.com/2) Within AE (no 3rd party) I’d try:
CC Ball Action
Grid Spacing: 2
Ball Size: 50
Tweak these to tasteHue Saturation: Check Colorize the 200 degrees plus or minus to get you blue.
Posterize: If you want several shades of blue
Then to add variety to the dots try any of these (or others you think of):
Directional Blur
Vector Blur
CC Glass (very trippy)FOR SQUARE PIXELS
CC Gridder
Horz: 55
Vert: 55
Rotation: 30 (to taste)
Cut Tiles: Check the boxFor Irregular Shaped dots try CC Cell Pattern on a solid layer above (Overlay or linear burn)
